Customer Loyalty!
Customer Loyalty is very important when it comes to saving money. I mean you could go around to every store in your area and hunt for the best deal but that takes a lot of time and energy, when if you simply stay loyal to just one store you will reap the benefits of your loyalty.
We have one grocery store that we enjoy shopping at for all of our groceries, and because we use it for almost everything we buy it has been very good to us in return. At one point a few years ago the manager of this grocery store pulled my husband aside and thanked him for being a valuable customer and gave us VIP status, not only did it make us feel nice that they were grateful to us for being loyal customers, but we also received extra gas rewards and many other great benefits.
Here are some reasons why I feel it is important and beneficial to be a loyal customer:
1) Great Customer Service - If you stay loyal to a small handful of places they get to know you and they will go above and beyond to give you the best service possible. One great example of this is: I was at the checkout line of my grocery store one day and the cashier (whom I have gotten to know) told me "did you know these steaks are buy one get one?" I didn't know that and she immediately ran to the back and got me more steaks for free. It made me feel special and happy to spend my money at an honest, customer oriented store.
2) Discounts - Since I am very loyal to my grocery store, I get great gas rewards. You get 10 cents off a gallon for every $100 spent, additionally if you buy certain products such as gift cards these rewards double or triple. Last week I was able to buy gas for $1.31/gallon, it was so exciting and weird to fill my tank for less than $20, definitely brings me back to my high school days. One way that we like to take full advantage of this is to buy gift cards to other stores that we shop at such as the pet store (we have three cats) and the rewards build up so much faster. This would also work well if you are planning a Disney vacation as most grocery stores sell Disney gift cards or passes.
3) Apps - Many grocery stores now a days have fantastic apps where you can go on there to get extra savings on things you are buying anyways. I go into my grocery store's app (usually while I am watching tv) and click on any coupon that I may possibly use and it comes off at the register when I am grocery shopping. This has saved me so much money over the years.
4) Free Stuff - The pharmacy that I use is the best with giving away free stuff. I was there a few weeks ago and every time I buy something or pick up a prescription they give me coupons and sometimes extra bucks (which is simply free money). My husband needed deodorant so I had $5 extra bucks and a coupon for 30% off of deodorant, which made my total out of pocket for 2 deodorants = 31 cents!!
5) Coupons - I like to coupon (obviously) and because I have stayed loyal to my grocery store and gotten to know many of the cashiers they are always very kind when I get to the checkout line with a stack of coupons.
One tip: Grocery stores vary across the country so take the time to get to know what your store has to offer. Speak to the manager or the cashiers and they would be happy to help you, if they aren't then maybe that isn't the grocery store for you.
I hope that you have found this helpful and that it may help you on your money saving journey!
