My journey to astigmatism

When I was in Kindergarten, I decided that I wanted to have glasses. I was so jealous of my classmates who had glasses, my parents didn’t wear glasses at that time, so kindergarten was my first experience knowing that some people wore them and some didn’t. I wanted to be one of the lucky few, I asked my classmates how they got glasses and one of my friends told me their eyes hurt and they got them. Easy enough I decided, I went home and promptly told my mom my eyes hurt. I continued to complain about painful eyes until she took me to the eye doctor. We were sitting in an examination room waiting for the doctor and my mom explained to me that the doctor was going to have me read a chart, if I got all the answers 100% correct I would get glasses. I was estatic my mom told me what to do! The doctor came in and I answered his questions perfectly, I was so happy. He told my mom my vision was perfect and we left. I was baffled, why didn’t we pick out glasses? My mom explained what happened. Well played mom.

Flash forward to a few weeks ago.

I am constantly getting headaches and I’ve really been working hard to figure out all of my triggers. I’ve realized that I see really well but I get headaches when I read. I decided to go to the optometrist for my annual exam, which usually consists of them telling me my vision is fine and I leave. This time they did my exam and then dialated me, I was confused. Then the tech and doctor spoke around me and didn’t really explain much other than saying  “astigmatism” and “far sighted” a lot. After the appointment the tech was walking me back out to the lobby and I asked “wait, do I need glasses?” His response “oh yeah, big time”

The five year old me finally got her day!

I called my mother and said “I need glasses” her response was “your dreams are finally coming true”

She is right.
